In the immediate aftermaths of natural disasters, food, water, medicine and emergency shelter often dominate the urgent needs of the affected communities. When efforts then turn to rebuilding the devastated areas, NAHB members often want to step up to the plate and help.
NAHB members who would like to donate products or building materials are encouraged to join NAHB’s industry-wide effort to make their donations through Gifts In Kind International.
Gifts In Kind’s primary mission is serving as the donation conduit between for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations. Specifically, the charity works with companies, including 44 percent of the Fortune 500, to donate inventory, which is then matched to a network of 200,000+ registered charities worldwide.
NAHB members have the ability to work with Gifts In Kind to donate materials nationally, regionally or locally based on need, goals of the donor company, or directed to future disasters.
Benefits of Product Donation
Not only will you and your company gain positive recognition from your donation, you also could earn a tax deduction of up to twice the value of the merchandise donated. Several NAHB members, including Sears and Maytag, already are working with Gifts In Kind. However the charity can accept product and building material donations both large and small.
